Manga Review: Seto no Hanayome

Photobucket

Title: Seto no Hanayome
Author: Kimura Tahiko
Release: Monthly
Status: Ongoing
Genre: Slice of Life, Comedy
Art: B
Originality: S
Story: B
Characters: S
Humor: S+
Action: A

Impression: This is the story of Nagasumi and Seto San, two young teens who are forced into engagement by series of events that would have ended in the loss of either of their lives if they hadn’t done so. The reason for this because San is the daughter of a Yakuza group of the mermaid society. Rules are that any human who discover the existence of mermaids are to be eliminated or the mermaid responsible dies. The only way to avoid that seems to be for the human and the mermaid to get married and because of that Nagasumi’s life will never be the same. The first few chapters are a bit dull but the laughs start pouring in once San moves to Saitama to live with Nagasumi’s family. Over the top is the style that the author is going with and it applies to everything. Awkward father? Make him the Terminator. Want to get rid of said father(And fail)? Use an orbital WMD. Even the slightest misunderstandings about the smallest things could end up having the main character going to hell and back. The characters have to be just as outrageous as the jokes to match them so there’s a lot to enjoy – as soon as the scans are out though. I’ve been reading from the raws and I’ve been having plenty of LOL’s from reading it in Japanese so I can guarantee you that it’ll be a blast translated.
