Manga Review: Nodame Cantabile

Photobucket

Title: Nodame Cantabile
Author: Ninomiya Tomoko
Release: Monthly
Status: Ongoing
Genre: Josei, Comedy, Romance
Art: B
Originality: A
Story: A
Characters: S
Humor: S
Action: B

Impression: This is about Chiaki Shinichi, a young brilliant pianist who dreams of becoming a conductor but is restricted to Japan because he has a phobia of any form of transport crossing borders and Noda “Nodame” Megumi, a strange and beast-like(her habits I mean) pianist dreaming of becoming a school teacher but has an unrecognised talent with the piano that Chiaki takes notice of. The first anime’s quite a bit better than the manga overall but it’s still pretty funny and the characters are just as much fun here. I don’t mean just the main characters but also the huge cast of side characters introduced all throughout the series. Most of them are given chapters to be fleshed out and Chiaki and Nodame and their relationship grows a lot throughout the story. Currently it’s only a few chapters away from ending as both characters are almost done growing so I’m eagerly awaiting for the last loose ends to be tied up.
