Manga Review: Void

Image

Title: Void
Author: Nanatsuki Kyoichi
Release: Monthly
Status: Ongoing
Genre: Sci-Fi, Shonen
Art: B
Originality: C
Story: D
Characters: C
Humor: C
Action: B

Impression: This is story set in world where people with powers exist and the story revolves around the actions of one particular superpowered masked man who steals the ability of other superpowered humans as his own for the sake of his own survival which ends at 5 chapters. Sure, a manga about Sylar does sound pretty damn cool but sadly that’s not what’s here in this series. What it is however is an overly ambitious series that started off in a vague and unlikeable manner and ended its first arc in an even more ambiguous and unsatisfying manner. The premise gets set up over the first few chapters and then takes a different turn down Rushed & Overdone Street from as retcons gets dropped in from there. Retcons! In the first five chapters of all places! If I hadn’t read that this series was still ongoing I would still have thought that arc 1.0 was the swift end of a canceled series.
