Manga Review: Medaka Box

Photobucket

Title: Medaka Box
Author: Nishio Ishin, Akira Akatsuki
Release: Weekly
Status: Ongoing
Genre: Shonen, Slice of Life
Art: A
Originality: B
Story: B
Characters: A
Humor: A
Action: A

Impression: This is about a charismatic busty young girl by the name of Kurokami Medaka who has become the first 1st year student council president and her childhood friend Hitoyoshi Zenkichi and how they deal with the requests sent into their suggestion box. The set-up sounds pretty familiar but this time it’s done excellently. There’s great chemistry between the characters and each one is a lot of fun to watch. The author manages to squeeze in all sorts of fanservice into the manga, often as part of a joke. The humor is excellent and often delivered in unexpected ways. The only flaw I see here so far is character depth. It’s still early in this series but I was hoping that there would be a bit more information on the main characters than what we have by now. So far each one can easily be described with a few simple words but hopefully they’ll get more complex as we go along.
